Description
Ida Sahmie is a Navajo artist who married into a family of Hopi potters. Her husband is Andrew Sahmie and her mother in law is Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo. Ida learned the art of traditional pottery making from her mother in law. Ida uses traditional Hopi-Tewa pottery techniques painting her pottery with Navajo designs.
This canteen was traditionally hand coiled and painted with “Mother Earth and Rainbow” design by artist, Ida Sahmie. The piece measures 5.5″ high by 5″ wide by 3″ deep.
